The Phillips Agency has been involved in diverse event, assisting in such areas as conception, planning, budgeting fundraising and promotion, depending on the needs of the client.

Among the clients and events served are the Annapolis Arts Festival, Dance Place, Facing the Music, Fairfax Symphony, First Night Annapolis, Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble, Historic Annapolis, Maryland Summer Jazz, the Monty Alexander Jazz Festival and Synergy Dance & Healing Arts Center.

The agency is a key player in developing, administering and promoting highly successful adult jazz education projects in Mid Atlantic cites. Sessions help get talented amateurs and semi-pros “out of the basement and onto the bandstand.”

Capital City Voices – begun in 2011 and based in Washington, DC, the jazz choir has sold out concerts in venues such as Blues Alley in the nation’s capital. The lead vocal coach is Wayne Wilentz.

Jazz Band Masterclass – jazz combo classes in Annapolis and the District. These twice-monthly sessions help musicians raise the bar on their playing and experience crucial group interaction and improvisation. Many students form gigging bands and record CDs.

inDepth Jazz Clinics & Concerts –jazz workshops held in Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington, DC. Led by internationally recognized recording and performing artists, these workshops address specific styles of music and challenge up and coming musicians and vocalists to become their best.

Maryland Summer Jazz – a highly rated adult summer jazz camp and festival held in Rockville, Maryland. Faculty includes international jazz artists and professors from many universities. Camp is part of a festival of workshops, jams and public concerts near Washington, DC. The event draws participants from over a dozen states each year. The Tenth Anniversary will be celebrated in July 2014.

The agency is involved in many artistic and educational events celebrating Brazilian jazz.

Jazz Samba Golden Anniversary Events – Music lovers worldwide were captivated by Brazilian jazz with the 1962 release of the mega hit album, Jazz Samba featuring Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd. With their fabulous melodies, harmonies and rhythms, samba and bossa continue to mesmerize millions. Many 2012-14 events explore the scope and development of Brazilian jazz.

Mobtown Moon – This large-scale musical collaboration began in Baltimore in 2010. Led by popular writer and musician Sandy Asirvatham and award-winning singer/songwriter ellen cherry, with artists from many genres, Mobtown is a dramatic, singer-focused reinterpretation of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, highlighting the album’s profound messages. The album became available in March 2013. A huge concert will be held September 28 at Goucher College in Baltimore County.

Oxygen for the Ears – This new award winning jazz documentary shows Washington, D.C.’s pivotal role in the past, present and future of American jazz. It’s been screened at 15 film festivals. Release date: September 2013. Click Here to read about the film and the thriving DC Jazz Scene.
